A GOOD BET - The Drawing

Whenever I do a painting I do a number of sketches which then progress into a drawing that is more or less going to be the final painted image. This is the last pencil drawing before I painted "A Good Bet". The painting is on the blog and posted back in January if you'd like to look at again after seeing the drawing.

BIG APPLE CITY

Many years ago, around 30 I think, I did this album cover for what was to become the largest selling childrens album of all time up to that point. Not the music on the album or the art work were responsible for the huge numbers however. Strawberry Shortcake was a franchise sensation among young girls, and I imagine a few young boys, when the album hit the stores. At the time anything with Strawberry and her friends would sell. Sorry the image is kind'a funky but I grabbed it off of the interweb as I don't have a copy of my own.

FRESH

When my family first started traveling from the north to visit Florida in the 1950's and 60's, you knew you had arrived when you started to see signs for fresh orange juice lining the highways and byways. Those signs are still there in some areas of the state but are very hard to see if you only travel the Turnpike or the Interstate highways. This oil painting is 30 inches by 40 inches and is my homage to those wonderful orange juice stands with the fresh squeezed juice we used to love when we first came to Florida. Actually I still love a fresh squeezed orange juice.

PROBABILITY

I was thinking about statistics and the applications for the real world when the unexpected came to mind. Ouch!

TALES FROM THE CATHODE RAY

As amazing as it seems to me, the cathode ray has passed into history. I still have a working model of the largest one ever to be sold to household consumers and it continues to function in glorious bright rich color while exciting the phosphors on the screen to glow by bombarding them with streams of electrons. There's enough high voltage inside that box to fell a grown elephant and it's so heavy it takes two very large and strong men even to lift it, but that's another story. Anyway, here's to the last of the cathode rays.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Did I mention before that I like the work of Dali? I think I did. This is pencil on primed canvas and is titled Thanks for the Memories.

SOFT SERVE

I love ice cream and always have. I know that Dairy Queen does not technically reach the definition of ice cream. According to the FDA, ice cream must have at least 10% butterfat to qualify and be advertised as ice cream. But whatever you call it, I like soft serve and my local Dairy Queen closed much to my dismay. So I was thinking of soft serve when I did this sketch.

FISH WITH A FACE

This little illustration was done on bond paper with colored pencil and black felt tip pen and then scanned into the computer where the text was added. Perhaps I'll get around to doing some more of these one day soon.
